Love for Shoes

I have never been a shoe girl. I don’t love shoe shopping and I have never came across any shoe that I simply could not live without. I could wear the same pair of shoes for a year and it wouldn’t even cross my mind that it might be time for a shoe change. I have worn the same work shoe for 6 years now. And no I do not mean that I have worn the same, dirty, contaminated old pair of work shoes for 6 years. I just mean that every year when its time to invest in a new pair, I buy the same style/brand of shoe again and again. They are so comfortable and never hurt my feet like so many others have after a long day at work. Why on earth would I get another kind. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

I barely learned to walk in high heels 2 years ago. Up to that point I have always felt too tall to wear anything higher than a ½ inch flat. I never “owned” my height, as they say. But to my surprise one day Jay and I were out of town on a mini vacation. I was 6 months pregnant at the time and feeling adventurous that day. I started trying on high heels and when I say high heels, what I really should be calling them is low heels. They are no bigger than 2.5 inches but that is high enough for me. The women out there that wear the 5 inch heels are very brave in my eyes. So I ended up taking home 2 pairs on that trip.

I have just recently began to have a small sense of why so many girls are shoe obsessed. I don’t know why after all these years of not caring, I am now catching myself going into the shoe section and trying on all kinds of different shoes. Shoes can change the whole mood of your outfit and I even decided that wearing a heel makes me feel more womanly/sexy. After all day long of changing diapers, wiping snotty noses and playing dolls I can put on a pair of heels and go on a date with my husband and still feel somewhat pretty again.

So after all this time of not caring about what shoe was on my foot as long as it was comfortable, it took Brylee beans until she learned how to walk to figure out her love for shoes. Every time I walk in the room she has a different pair of shoes on. She has recently learned how to put her very own shoes on all by herself. Shoe was one of her first words, and I have a feeling I have got a long road ahead of me with her and her love for shoes.
