R eally S #!*% V irus

I guess it all started a week ago, last Thursday. I went to work that morning and around 10:30am I had a missed call from my sister in law who has Brylee most of the days when I work since she was born. In all that time I don't think I have ever got a call from her, so I kinda knew something was up.

I called her back and she said that Brylee wasn't acting like herself and that she thinks she has a fever. Okay no big deal, shes getting 4 teeth at the same time that has got to be it! I told her to give her some Tylenol and that I will work on getting someone to come in for me.

A couple hours later when I got her home I took her temp and it was 102. Took it about a half hour later and it was 103. She fell asleep and while she was sleeping of course I was calling Shae and texting my sister in laws and getting advice from people that had been through this because as of then she had NEVER had a fever in her life.

When she woke up I took her temp again and it read 104. OKAY I'm calling the Doctor. They weren't able to get me in til 6:30pm so I continued to give her Motrin/Tylenol and gave her a warm bath. A few hours later I was able to get her temp down and I was going back and forth on whether or not I really need to take her in. I decided I will watch her and see how it goes.
During the next few days Brylee certainly wasn't her self. She wouldn't eat or drink much and had an off and on fever that was being controlled by the meds. When I woke up Sunday morning she wasn't around so I asked Jay where she was and he said that she had woke up around 7:30 and by 8:30 she laid on him and fell asleep. I decided then that she was not improving and it's time to take her in.

Luckily my pediatrician is open on weekends and we were able to be seen that day around noon. When we got there the nurse kept taking her O2 levels over and over again and said "this thing isn't working, its not reading her right" She soon realized that actually Brys levels were that low and that the machine was working. The lowest number I saw was 78 which is dangerously low.

The doctor gave her a breathing treatment to see if he could get the O2 number to change, he got it to go up to 85, but according to him anything 90 and below is considered time to go to the hospital because she wasn't able to keep them up on her own.

Brylee was very pale and lethargic at this point. Of course it wasn't the news we wanted to hear but off to Utah Valley we went.

We arrived and the doctor had ordered a Rapid RSV test and chest x-ray. so almost immediately we knew that she was RSV positive/Bronchiolitis. They stuck tubes down her noes into her throat to suction her out. It was absolutely horrible to watch. She was screaming mooommmmy mommmy noooooo. What could I do? They were torturing my little girl and there was nothing I could do about it. Most helpless feeling in the world.

Brylee hadn't said two words to us all day, she wouldn't speak or do anything but lay there. Her coping mechanism was interesting, whenever anyone that was not Jay or I would walk in she would close her eyes and pretend she was asleep. I guess she was thinking if I cant see them, then they aren't there?

That mechanisms went away real fast as soon as she realized that these people in yellow gown and masks are not nice. Every time someone would walk in the room she would freak out. Basically they had to suction her out every 4 hours which I felt like was the worst part, she was on O2 and had an IV to keep her hydrated. Her breathing was scary to watch, she was breathing really fast and her skin was retracting(sucking in) on her ribs and throat. We found out on day 2 that on top of all this she now also has double ear infections. Miserable, miserable, miserable.

I just hope she isn't scarred for life because this morning as I downloaded these pictures Brylee came over and saw one of the pictures where she had tubes all over her and she got a worried look on her face and shouted "NOOOoooo!"

So we had a rough few days but she is recovering so fast and doing really well now. She hadn't ate anything for many days and yesterday she started eating again and had her first poopy diaper in 5 days! Very happy about that.

We have the best family and friends. Everyone was so worried and concerned, and we appreciate so much all the love sent our way! She even had some brave visitors that didn't mind walking into a diseased filled hospital to see her and that brought her lots of toys, books and balloons. Love you guys!

So here's to hoping that I never ever have to do that again, but at the same time counting our many blessings and knowing that so many parents have it so much worse off. I got to see a small glimpse of what some people have or have had to go through with there children and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Brylee we love you sweetheart and are so glad you are doing better!

At the doctors office, Poor little baby was so sick and miserable.

Here is her coping mechanism I was talking about.
Day 1 and 2 were mostly spent like this

Day 3 she starts to perk up.

And yes I was going on maybe 4 hours of sleep in 2 nights. And having a child in the hospital is a great weight loss program. I would highly NOT recommend it.

And here is when we knew it was time to go home. She was walking around like she owned the place. It was great to see.
For some reason she wanted to be in this closet with the door closed. I'm not sure if she was hiding from the nurses and doctors or what, but she stayed in there for a while.

And finally we get to go home!! And not a moment to soon because just as we were about to get discharged a nurse walked in and said that we would be getting a roommate because the hospital is on overflow. BUHH bye!

We are soooo happy to have our Brylee Beans back!!!!!!!!
